MONTFORTIAN LAY ASSOCIATES

A total of 17 members of the Montfortian Lay Associates made the Act of Total Consecration to take up the commitment to assist the Brothers of St. Gabriel in their mission in Sabah on 4th February during the Sunday evening mass at St Paul’s Chapel on-the-Hill presided by Rev. Fr. Rayner Bisius.

HOLY WEEK

Rev Fr Charolus Albertus Leta from Malang, East Java celebrated the Holy Week in MYTC from Palm Sunday, 25th March till Easter Sunday, 1st April 2018.

DONATIONS IN KIND

Several organisations namely Perfect Vacation Sdn. Bhd. Led by Mdm. Eve Chai,  Agensi Pekerjaan Sayang Kinabalu, and Tang Dynasty Hotel led by Mdm Emily donated foodstuff and goods to MYTC on 12 February, 27 Match and 28 April respectively.

CHEQUE PRESENTATION BY KINABALU FOUNDATION

YBhg Datuk Chin Chee Kee, Chairman of Kinabalu Foundation giving his speech in conjunction with the presentation of cheque to MYTC on 18 April 2018 in support of our educative mission for the underprivileged youth in Sabah. By sharing his personal difficult road to success, Datuk Chin motivates and encouraged both Staff and Trainees to strive harder.

MYTC SPORTS DAY

For the very first time, MYTC organized its inaugural Sports Day which was held in Penampang Sports Complex on 10th February 2018. MYTC Staff and Trainees together with the Boarders of San Damiano Boy’s Hostel, Kiulu participated. The event kicked off with a March Pass from each department followed by pledge led by the HQ of Sports and Recreation, Benedict Densip. Among the sport events that took place were track events and field events. The Sports Day concluded with a prize presentation and Carpentry Department was awarded first place, with a total of 5 gold medals, 2 silver medals and 4 bronze medals.

BATCH 18 PREFECTS OUTING

24 prefects and seven staff had a 3D2N outing in Sandakan from 14-18 April 2018. They visited several places of interest namely Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre, Rainforest Discovery Centre, Sandakan Crocodile Farm and Puu Jiih Shih Buddhist Temple. The trainees also attended mass at St Mary Cathedral, dined at a well-known seafood restaurant and popular breakfast spot at Kim Fung Market. Mr & Mrs Francis Soong, parents to Alexi, one of the trainees, hosted a fellowship dinner for them and on the way back, they stopped at Poring Hot Springs for a visit. The outing was in appreciation and recognition to the members of the MYTC Prefectorial Board who gave their time and talents to assist the Student Affairs officers in the running of the Home Programme.

RCIA

Congratulations to thirteen of our Trainees who received the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, First Holy Communion and Confirmation) on 31st March 2018, during the Easter Vigil at St. Augustine’s Church, Kinarut.

BLOOD DONATION

A Blood Donation Drive was held by the Blood Bank Department of Queen Elizabeth’s Hospital at MYTC on 2 March 2018.

BATCH 20 INTERVIEW

One hundred and ten applicants including four from Sarawak, turned up for the Batch 20 interview, held from 5 to 9 March 2018.

PREFECTS LEADERSHIP TRAINING CAMP

The Prefects Leadership Training Camp was held on 16 – 18 March 2018 for 54 Trainees of Montfort Kinarut and 5 Boarders of San Damiano Boys Hostel Kiulu in the Outward Bound Sabah, Papar. The aim for the camp is to identify potential leaders and to develop leadership strength among the trainees through various character building and team building activities. The Leadership camp ended with the evaluation session and certificates presentation to the trainees by OBS and MYTC.

BATCH 19 PREFECTS INSTALLATION

Twenty-five prefects led by Aaron Obry Martin, HQ Prefect Discipline, solemnly pledged to take up their responsibilities as the incoming prefects of Batch 19 on Monday, 7th May 2018 in the presence of Brothers, Management Committee members, Staff and trainees.

PASTORAL VISIT

This year our pastoral care unit visited the home of 3 trainees namely Alex Laminggu in Kampung Borombon, Benedict Densip in Kampung Rambai and Jasrien Domiou in Kampung Nulu all in the Kiulu District.

BATCH 18 GRADUATION DAY

Trainees of Batch 18 had their graduation ceremony which was graced by YBhg. Datuk Henry Goh, a local philanthropist and Deputy Chairman of Montfort Charity Golf 2018 on 19 May 2018.. The 76 trainees of Batch 18 who sat for the SKM examination achieved 100% passes with nine of them scoring 90% and above which earned them the Terampil Cemerlang (Excellent Score) title. This year, nine trainees, namely Erwin Kok of Automotive Department, Elfan Sam, Franky Dion Dualis, Nickson Gotisin, Wanddyson Engan Wan of Welding Department, Albeniou John, Gabriel Maxwell Leo, Richter Sylvester and Conrad Moreh of RAMD, with their excellent scores received monetary reward. Trainees with scores of 90 and above received RM250 each and trainees with scores of 88-89.9 received RM100 each. Monetary reward of RM500 was also awarded to two most improved trainees i.e. Bolton Martin and Benedict Densip who gave their testimonies on their experiences in front of some 300 audiences during the graduation ceremony. The monetary rewards was generously sponsored by Mr. Joseph Tek, MYTC Board of Governor.

WORLDSKILL MALAYSIA BELIA 2018

MYTC trainee Bryan Enod Zachary of Carpentry Department accompanied by Carpentry Co-ordinator, Mr Fredolin Edmund participated in the Worldskill Malaysia Belia 2018 pre-qualifier competition held on 12 -15 April 2018 at the Stadium Darul Makmur, Kuantan Pahang. Bryan completed 90% of his hand piece assignment and was complimented on his outstanding “tanggam bajang” skill. He did not manage to go throught to the final round but the exposure provided an educative experience for him as well as MYTC.

WELDING 3G POSITION TEST

20 trainees of Welding department participated in the Welding Institute (TWI) Sabah 3G position test held on 19-28 March 2018. 19 of them passed the test and were being awarded with the 3G Welding License Certificate by TWI which is widely sought after in the oil and gas and shipping construction industries.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO BOON SIEW IN INANAM

Automotive senior trainees visited Boon Siew, HONDA sales and service centre in Inanam on 27 April 2018 and had the opportunity to see the real workshop operation site in handling engine diagnosis, braking system, suspension system, immobilizer system and parts controller.

INHOUSE AIR-COND MAINTENANCE BY RAMD

Trainees from RAMD Department serviced the ceiling cassette of the Air-conditioning system at admin office while being monitored by RAMD Coordinator, Mr Shun Kok Win. This task provided hands-on practice among the trainees to familiarise and understand air-cond components in a commercial building.

There were 51 out of 76 trainees from the Automotive, Welding, Carpentry and RAMD departments who had successfully obtained job under MYTC Job Placement Programme this year with established companies from various sectors throughout Selangor, Federal Territory of Labuan and Sabah.

The General Studies Department organised the Montfort Feast Day competition on 17th April 2018. There were public speaking contest, quiz and drawing competitions. The trainees and staff had a fun filled and exciting time during the event. The RAMD department was once again the overall champion for the feast day competition. The General Studies also launched their first ever “FORTNIGHT ENGLISH” program with the objective to encourage all staff and trainees to speak English. There were also public speaking and scrabble competitions for staff and trainees categories. The program received an overwhelming response from the staff.

BATCH 18 LEAVER’S RETREAT

A leaver’s retreat for seventy-six trainees of Batch 18 was organised on 11 – 13 May 2018 at the Kaingaran Retreat Centre in Tambunan. The retreat was to prepare them for the next-phase of their lives as they would be completing their two year training programme with MYTC. The retreat was conducted by Martin Jalleh, a full-time Youth Ministry formation facilitator from Peninsular Malaysia.

BATCH 19 FIRST YEAR RETREAT

First year retreat for 54 Trainees of Batch 19 was held at Bundu Tuhan Retreat Centre on 20-22 May 2018 to prepare them for their second year training in Montfort.
